VIDEO EDITOR (FREELANCE) - Manchester Area - www.appliedcaninescience.co.uk

The Institute of Applied Canine Science is growing and we're looking for a freelance video editor.

Initially, this role will involve one day per week of editing work, with significant opportunity for additional ad hoc projects and increased days as the business continues to expand. For the right person could realistically grow into a regular 2-4 day per week role over time.

About Us

The Institute of Applied Canine Science provides professional education and continuing professional development for dog trainers and handlers. We produce online courses, lectures, workshops, webinars and educational content that is watched by trainers across the UK and internationally.

As our production quality continues to increase, we're looking for an editor who can help us create polished, professional and engaging educational content for our paywalled subscription platform and our social media - while maintaining a consistent brand standard.

Find out more about us here.

See media and press here.

The Role

You'll be editing a variety of content including:

  • Educational "how-to" videos (typically 15-20 minutes)

  • Online lectures and presentations (typically 1-3 hours)

  • Full workshop recordings (typically 2-5 hours)

  • Promotional and social media content (1- 8 minutes)

Footage will typically be supplied as:

  • Camera 1 footage

  • Camera 2 footage

  • Drone footage where relevant

  • Occasional iPhone footage

  • Trimmed and labelled B-roll

Filming is carried out primarily using a Canon EOS R system and DJI drone equipment.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has strong editing skills and attention to detail

  • Has experience editing this type of content and a proven portfolio

  • Can create clean, professional educational content

  • Understands pacing and viewer engagement

  • Can follow a prescribed brand style and editing standard

  • Is organised, reliable and enthusiastic

  • Is familiar and comfortable using modern technology and AI to work efficiently to time scales

  • Is motivated to progress and hungry to continue progressing in their field

  • Is comfortable receiving feedback and refining edits

  • Is interested in building a long-term working relationship

  • Massive bonus points if you have any background working with, owning or having a special interest in dogs

Experience editing educational, training, documentary, podcast or lecture-style content would be particularly valuable.

Who we aren’t looking for

  • Someone who primarily wants to, or already does, work within the dog professional industry

  • Someone who has no interest in dogs or learning about dogs

How We'll Work

Initially, we'll work closely together.

I'll provide clear guidance, examples and feedback to help establish the required style and standard. Over time, the aim is for you to become increasingly independent and able to deliver edits that require minimal revision.

This is not a "send it off and hope" arrangement. I'm looking for someone who enjoys collaboration, takes pride in their work and wants to contribute to building something meaningful over the long term with the posibility of a full time in-house placement in the future.

Location

Manchester area preferred.

While much of the editing can be completed remotely, being local enough for occasional meetings and collaboration would be advantageous. You would also then get to meet my Great Dane puppy, Max.

To Apply

Please send:

  • A short introductory email about yourself

  • Relevant experience (can be in the form of a formal CV)

  • Examples of your work (particularly educational, documentary, interview, workshop or long-form content)

  • Your freelance day rate

  • Any other information you feel would help us understand why you'd be a good fit

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating high-quality educational content and wants to grow alongside an ambitious and rapidly expanding small (for now) business.
